UPDATE: Escaped inmate's girlfriend arrested

UPDATE: KHQ's Victor Correa reports that Roy Bieluch's girlfriend Rachel Johnson was arrested Wednesday at 4p.m. in Wallace. Police believe Bieluch is in the area.

WED. MORNING UPDATE: The Shoshone County Sheriff says escaped inmate Roy Bieluch could be anywhere, and the Sheriff says one of the things that helped him escape is a lack of funding.

Sheriff Mitch Alexander tells KHQ that Bieluch climbed up into the ceiling from a janitor's closet, worked through a crawl space which led to the lobby of the Shoshone County Jail, and walked right out the front door Tuesday night.

The Sheriff's Office says it believes Bieluch is with his girlfriend Rachel Johnson, who deputies say was an inmate who was released from the jail a few months ago.

Sheriff Alexander says his department, which is responsible for the county jail, doesn't have the necessary resources to have two guards on duty at all times. The Sheriff says the jail needs that, but they lack the funding to do so.

Deputies say they're still searching for Bieluch, but what makes their search difficult is that he could truly be anywhere. The Sheriff says in the past they tried tracking down Bieluch after he stole a car, and they found him more than three hours away in Whitefish, MT.

KHQ spoke with Sheriff Alexander moments after he made a plea for more funding from Shoshone County Commissioners Wednesday morning.

If you see Bieluch, you're asked to call 911 or the Sheriff's Office business line at 208-556-1114 ext 1 immediately.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE: The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office says it is searching for an inmate that escaped from the county jail Tuesday night and he may be armed and dangerous. Sheriff's Deputies say they were notified around 8:20 pm Tuesday that 48-year-old Roy J. Bieluch had escaped from the Shoshone County Jail, which is in Wallace, ID.

Bieluch was arrested by a Shoshone County Sheriff's Deputy back on Oct. 10, 2014 and charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. Deputies say they also found multiple firearms with him at the time of his arrest.

The Sheriff's Office says Bieluch failed to appear for his arraignment in Shoshone County in November, so his previously posted $50,000 bond was revoked and a new warrant was issued with a bail amount of $100,000.

Deputies say Bieluch has been in the jail since December 12, 2014 on charges of burglary, malicious injury to property, petit theft and failure to appear in court. Deputies also say that Bieluch used to live in Kellogg.

The Sheriff's Office describes him as 5'09" in height, 200 pounds with a muscular build. He has blue eyes and a shaved head with grey goatee, along with several tattoos.

Deputies say they're still sorting out some of the details, including how Bieluch escaped the jail.

Sheriff's Deputies say if you see Bieluch, do not approach him because they believe he may be armed and dangerous. If you've seen Bieluch, or you know anything about where he is, you're asked to call 911 or the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office business line at 208-556-1114 ext 1.
