Vehicle pulled from Spokane River following April crash; body found inside

On Friday, crews removed a vehicle found in the Spokane River just south of the Mission St. Bridge. The vehicle was found in the river following a crash on April 21

At the time of the crash, the river was very high and currents were too swift for crews to attempt recovery operations. The rivers have been continuously monitored, and today conditions were deemed safe enough to recover the vehicle.

A heavy tow truck was brought in to help in removing the vehicle from the river.  The recovery took about 4 hours.

The body found inside will be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office as part of the investigation. The identity of the body will be released at a later date.

Family of missing person James Monday tells KHQ that they are confident that it is his vehicle that was recovered from the river, and they believe it was his body that rescue crews found inside.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office’s Emergency Operations Team and the Spokane Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team and Drone Team assisted the Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit in Friday's recovery effort.
