Sports Director

SWX-TV is looking for its next Sports Director!  As the local sports leader based in Spokane, WA we are looking for someone to lead our team, co-host our nightly half-hour sports show, and provide play-by-play for live broadcasts.  SWX is one of the premier sportscasting destinations in the country, producing content for a 24-hour sports channel and contributing to nightly sportscasts for KHQ-TV, the local NBC affiliate. We know the return of sports will be epic and SWX is ready to provide the most comprehensive coverage of all our teams when they are back.  The scope of our coverage includes Gonzaga basketball, as well as Big Sky football and basketball at Eastern Washington & Idaho, and special events like Hoopfest.  We also regularly broadcast live sporting events for the Western Hockey League and Short-Season Class-A baseball, while also producing programming for various Coaches Shows.  All-in-all we produce hundreds of live events each year.  The ideal candidate will have extensive sportscasting experience, proven leadership skills and extensive knowledge of all things sports. Master Control Operator

KHQ-TV has an opening for a full time Master Control Operator. Job responsibilities include recording and playback of programs & commercial content, operation of automation systems, monitoring of signal quality as well as control of broadcast transmitting equipment to ensure FCC compliance. Applicants must have working knowledge of broadcast equipment and procedures. Computer experience is required. Must be available to work flexible hours including holidays, nights, weekends and overnights. Technical Media Producer - PT

KHQ-TV, the Inland Northwest's Local News Leader has an immediate opening for a part-time Technical Media Producer.  TMP’s as we call them are the true Swiss Army Knives of the KHQ newsroom. TMP's do everything from edit video, operate studio cameras, prepare the studio for broadcast, shoot breaking news, write web and newscast stories, and countless other responsibilities. So you have to be technically savvy, adaptable, and producer-minded. Special Projects Producer

KHQ-TV in Spokane, WA is looking for an enterprising Special Projects Producer.  We are looking for someone that knows how to dig for a story, research it, write it to use strong storytelling and TV production tools to make it memorable.  Knowledge of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) process is a plus – knowledge of current events is essential.  The successful candidate will work closely with reporters on unique story development and investigations.  They will also work with newscast producers to showcase stories and help during breaking news and severe weather.  This person will need to develop sources in the community to generate story ideas and determine the legitimacy of viewer tips.  The Special Projects Producer will write online versions of special project stories and work with Digital Producers on "web extra" content.  The majority of this position will be “off-air.”  Qualified applicant should have a degree in broadcasting or related field and experience working in local television news.

Accounts Payable - FT

The A/P position is essential to the financial performance of Cowles Montana Media Company. This position will process Accounts Payable for our Montana television stations. This position will also share receptionist backup duties and provide support to the smooth running of the accounting office.  This position is located at KHQ-TV in downtown Spokane.  Primary responsibilities:  1. Process, batch, code and input payables invoices for Montana locations; 2. Review A/P invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment; 3. Process A/P check selection, print and distribute checks as required; 4. Maintain W-9 Forms; 5. Month end processing, including accruals, and credit card reconciliation; 6. Prepare and submit 1099/1096 Forms; 7. Set up and maintain A/P vendor accounts; 8. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and experience needed:  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with both internal and external customers; 2. Microsoft Suite, Sage, and Acumatica; 3. Problem solving and troubleshooting skills; 4. Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail; 5. Self-motivated.

Working conditions:  The Accounts Payable must be able to deal with frequent interruptions, handle multiple projects, and have exceptional multi-tasking skills.

Key Relationships: Accounting, Station Management, Employees and Vendors.  One year of accounts payable experience is preferred.

Statewide Weekend Anchor/Reporter

Cowles Montana Media is looking for an experienced journalist to join our team as the face of Montana Right Now Weekend Edition.  Montana Right Now is our statewide brand. The person hired will serve as a weekend manager overseeing six statewide/regional weekend newscasts. You will work with the weekend producer to coordinate coverage by reporters across the State of Montana.  Montana Right Now can be seen in every television market in Montana which when combined using the 2020 Nielson DMA index would equal to the 81st television market in the country.  In short, this is not a position for beginners. We’ll use your expertise to craft coverage to truly capture Montana Right Now. 

You’ll look for opportunities to lead with breaking news and weather. You’ll help our budding young reporters identify stories that are character driven and geared towards the Montana way of life.  During the week, you’ll also serve as a senior reporter turning in depth stories that could keep you on the road for hours at a time. Your mission will be to peel back the layers of issues impacting the communities across Montana and to get to the heart of a story.  As our senior reporter, you’ll be fronting the biggest stories impacting the region daily will thrive during live breaking news coverage.

The weekend anchor will also serve as the primary fill-in anchor during the week.

Production Operations Manager

KULR-TV in the beautiful Big Sky Country of Billings, Montana is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to serve as our Production Operations Manager.  The Production Operations Manager will oversee scheduling and training of our news production staff. This individual is also responsible for care of studio equipment including managing general care for studio mics, cameras, and lighting grid. The Production Operations Manager will also oversee our production control room ensuring switcher and audio board are in proper working order.  The Production Operation Manager will help direct and technical direct live newscasts and productions. The Production Operations Manager is responsible for establishing recording schedules for pre-recorded studio segments and news topicals. 

This person will be responsible for gathering, organizing, coordinating and execution of all elements involved in the production of newscasts. You must have solid technical skills, a thorough working knowledge of TV production, meet all deadlines, and work well under pressure. You must possess a positive "can-do" attitude!  The Production Operations Manager reports to the News Director.  In addition, this person must work well with newsroom producers/managers, must meet deadlines/work well under pressure, and possess good news judgement.
